Something Special

It would take something pretty special to keep me from exercising with my favorite people.

Yesterday, we spent the day moving our first-born into his new dorm room at Union University in Jackson, TN. Amidst all of the emotions that I have as his Mama, an overwhelming peace and assurance that Andrew is where God has brought him, reigns in my heart. Yes, I am still going to cry and miss him tremendously, but with such hope in all that God has for him. Today, I’m so grateful for our faithful and loving God.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

  1. Hello! I found this post when I Googled “Union University,” which is my alma mater. I was in your son’s place 21 years ago! He couldn’t be in a better place — Union is so special. Even now all these years later I still consider it my second home and am still close to several faculty members. In fact I’m planning to be at the Fall Convocation a week from today! I hope your Andrew (he shares my little brother’s name!) falls as deeply in love with Union and her family as I did. Rest assured, he will be guided, nurtured and taught well.

  2. WOW…what a nice comment from FreshGirl… GOD IS GOOD!! What more can we say??!!

  3. Oh, poor Kay! I know this is tough. No matter how old you get, you are always your mother’s baby. I’ve been home for almost 2 weeks and I know when I leave Sunday to return to Nashville, my Mom is going to have a hard time. When I arrived home last week, my Dad gave me a talk about how this was such a great career move for me (moving to Nashville a year ago) and my Mom said “I just miss you SOOOOO much!” I miss my Mom too and I’ve had a blast being with my family and friends these last couple of weeks. I’ll see you guys at class next week!!

  4. @Amy, you are so right. what a sweet daughter to be so in tune with how your leaving affects your mom. i hope lauren is half as sensitive as you are :)

  5. Am I the only one whose mother WASN”T that emotional when they first left for college??? My mother couldn’t wait to get rid of me! I think I was more upset about them leaving me there, but a part of it may have been because I hated my roommate (she only lasted 3 wks and 6 days). Now, when they come home for holidays or summer, you may have trouble getting them to adhere to rules, because they’ve been independent, and are loving it…or maybe it was just me that was rebellious :D All you really have to do to get over it is convert their room into something else, ALL parents threaten their children with that LOL

  6. [...] Special 2 I told you before that it would take something special to get me to miss exercising with my favorite people on Tuesday and Thursday. AND not by any means [...]
