Something Special 2

I told you before that it would take something special to get me to miss exercising with my favorite people on Tuesday and Thursday. AND not by any means is she number 2, but how could you say no to this face?

She's breaking out!

She

Heads up all you crosspointfitters, you’re going to get the girls teaching tonight:) Don’t worry, you are in good hands. Jeff couldn’t stand missing Lauren score her first (notice I said first and not only) goal last week. He wanted to take her to practice tonight.

I would LOVE to know what is something special to you.

Bike Sights 2

Well, at least I have it behind me….my first fall. If you have ever ridden a bike with the clips that attach to the pedals, (Rick) you will understand my dilemma. Never should you unclip your left foot and lean to the right. So, sorry, there are really no beautiful bike sights this time because you don’t see many from the ditch! But check out our original Bike Sights post if you like pretty scenery.

Rats!

Rats!

No, I was not texting at the time.

No, I was not texting at the time.

All in all it was still a lovely day.

Happy Birthday!!

It is hard to believe anybody that wears shoes like these could be 40-something! But she is!! Be sure and stop by her blog and show her you can’t believe it either!!

I’ve Been Purging!

No, not in that way….but this is supposed to be a fitness type blog. Just humor me.

This fall, both of my children stepped into a new phase of life. My 5 year old daughter started kindergarten, and my 18 year old son moved into his college dorm. For weeks now I have been in this weird waiting mode…waiting to go get in the car rider line, waiting for the weeked when Andrew comes home. Waiting and not really doing anything. I can’t seem to get too involved in something. I have to get ready to get in the car rider line.

But something has finally snapped in me, and for whatever reason, maybe because we started a new series at church called “Baggage”, I thought it would be a good idea to start cleaning out all our closets! It was overwhelming at first, but I admit, once I got into it, it really was liberating! Of course, I started with my son’s closet. He will freak when he comes home. :) Lauren is so excited now that her closet is a new place for hide and seek.

Jeff is a nervous man as he treasures so many things that I would LOVE to purge. Pray for him. Don’t worry, I will respect his request to not mess with his stuff.

So what are you hanging onto that probably needs purging?

“Can I Get a Witness Up In Here?!”

There is so much encouragement in hearing from other people who have figured out ways to improve on their health; whether it be quitting smoking, losing weight, adding exercise into their lives, etc. We thought you all might enjoy hearing from real live people and their success stories.

Mike Quin is a technical support manager for Black Box Network Services (free plug), and one of our dearest friends. He is one of those people that as soon as you meet him, you just can’t help but love him. In his own words, here is his story:

“Well, I was weighing in at 270lbs. I was having heart palpitations and snoring so bad that I wasn’t getting a good night’s sleep. I went to the doctor for the palpitations and was soon sent to a cardiovascular surgeon for test. I was sure expecting blockage and open heart surgery. Instead, I was told, that my type of palpitations were normal and I had no real heart damage at all. I explained to the doctor that I really hated the palpitations because they make me feel bad; he offered two remedies. One was a medication that causes liver failure and the second was diet and exercise. So, I started out walking and eliminating the whites (bread, rice, potatoes, etc.). It took a couple of months walking, slowly increasing my distance to where I am now. I am running 3 miles a day and I’ve lost 45 lbs. I’m still working on it and have a ways to go but its working. I’ve reached plateaus along the way and got disappointed few times. So I’d take a day or two off then get back at it and that seems to work. I am taking your advice and working on other parts of my body during those days off from running, I’ll let you know how that’s going after a few weeks. The palpitations have disappeared, I’m sleeping a whole lot better, and I feel refreshed. When people say they feel better, they’re right. I feel lighter and more energetic than I have in a long long time.”

You go, Mike! We are so proud of you! Thank you for encouraging all of us.

I know there are more of you out there, and we would love to hear your stories. Give us a comment or email us so others can share the love!

Something Special

It would take something pretty special to keep me from exercising with my favorite people.

Yesterday, we spent the day moving our first-born into his new dorm room at Union University in Jackson, TN. Amidst all of the emotions that I have as his Mama, an overwhelming peace and assurance that Andrew is where God has brought him, reigns in my heart. Yes, I am still going to cry and miss him tremendously, but with such hope in all that God has for him. Today, I’m so grateful for our faithful and loving God.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6

09/03/08 I’d walk a mile for a ?

HOW MANY many miles do you need to walk to lose 1 lb. of body fat in one day? The answer depends on certain conditions:
Your weight. The more you weigh the more calories you burn walking per mile; the less you weigh the fewer calories you burn per mile. The amount of calories you burn per mile is equal to double your weight in pounds divided by 3.5. For example, if you weigh 250 pounds, you burn 2 x 250 = 500 / 3.5 = 143 calories per mile. Since there are 3500 calories in 1 lb. of body fat, a 250-pound person needs to walk 24.5 miles. A 150-pound person burns about 86 calories per mile, and would need to walk 41 miles. That sounds easy, “why don’t I go and walk a marathon every day for a week and I’ll lose seven pounds”…. Yipee. Are you excited yet? How about a marathon a week? That would be one pound per week; a little easier… eight miles, six days a week…… I hear another Yipee. Remember 3500 calories equals 1 pound of fat. Doing without a Big Mac and Fries every day for seven days would equal 3700 calories. “Now were talking”, a little walking and watching what I eat could add up to one pound a week.
Attention:
After an exhaustive review of the research literature, here’s the final word on nutrition and health:

1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Humor is good.

What works for you?  Diets, exercise, will power…….. What doesn’t work for you?

Bike Sights

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen…..Romans 1:20

Yea!! we did get to go on our first bike ride today. It is amazing how many things you see on a bike ride that you might never notice while driving by in a car. Check out just a few of the cool sights we saw today.

08/29/08 New Hobby

Today, we have embraced a new hobby. We have entered the world of biking. We traveled to Grand Rivers, Kentucky and picked up a couple of TREK road bikes.  I never knew there was so much involved in purchasing a bicycle. We arrived at WOOD-N-WAVE bike shop at 10 am and left around 1pm. The owner, Steve Wilson was one of the most helpful, knowledgeable people that I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. So this is a “plug” to anyone needing a bike. Hopefully, we can take our first ride tomorrow.
